Press Release
January 2000Breaking news for PCI-SIG members and friends.PCI-SIG TO EVANGELIZE PCI-X AT LEADING INDUSTRY EVENTSRepresentatives of the PCI-SIG will be speaking at three upcoming industry events - Server I/O, Platform 2000 and DesignCon 2000 - in support of the recently released PCI-X v1.0. With these efforts, the PCI-SIG is continuing its dedication to educating and supporting the industry on the high-speed, backward-compatible I/O solution. The PCI-SIG invites its members to attend these opportunities to learn more about PCI-X technology at some of the industry's leading events. Following is a list of where you can hear more on PCI-X as well as links to more information on the specific event: Event: Server I/O, Monterey, CAWhat: PCI-X tutorial presented by Alan Goodrum of Compaq and Chair of the PCI-X workgroup, PCI-SIG. When: Tuesday, January 18, 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. This four hour tutorial will review the current state of I/O in the industry and the driving needs for advancements in I/O technology. The tutorial will examine the overall PCI-X bus architecture in detail and cover key features such as card and system interoperability, protocol, software aspects, performance predictions and electricals. The Server I/O Conference Series addresses the server, networking, and storage markets from an I/O perspective. For more information on Server I/O (January 17 - 20) and how to register, please visit http://www.sresearch.com/itf/serverio.htm. Event: Platform 2000, San Jose, CAWhat: PCI-X presentation by Dwight Riley of Compaq and Vice-Chair of PCI-X workgroup, PCI-SIG. When: Wednesday, January 26, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. This 2-hour session, entitled "PCI-X for I/O-centric Computing", explores the driving factors of PCI-X, its advantages, and its impact on performance and peripherals. There will also be an in-depth review of PCI-X technology which will include new bus concepts, transaction types and protocol changes. Platform 2000 will enable you to examine the standards, products, vendors, and architectures upon which successful platform strategies are founded. For more information on Platform 2000 (January 26 - 27) and how to register, please visit http://www.platformconference.com/. Event: Design Conference 2000, Santa Clara, CA This one hour presentation on PCI-X will review the high-performance extension to the PCI Local Bus Specification v2.2 that operates up to speeds of 133 MHz and builds on the extensive installed base and investment in PCI. The presentation will also cover technical details such as new bus concepts, transaction types, protocol changes, electrical/signaling requirements, improved fault tolerance and backward compatibility. DesignCon 2000 brings leading designers together to discuss the current industry trends, learn of the best design solutions, network with industry peers, and interact with the companies that provide the equipment that makes the solutions possible.
