Press Release
PCI-SIG IncorporatesAnnouncing Board of Directors and Enhanced Member BenefitsPortland, Oregon, September 20, 2000 - The PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG), an organization formed in 1992 to develop the PCI Local Bus Specification, became an incorporated 501(c)(6) non-profit organization called PCI-SIG on September 20, 2000. The PCI-SIG will assume the responsibilities to the members of the PCI Special Interest Group. As companies renew and sign the membership agreement, they will become members of the new PCI-SIG. Directors for the corporation are the individuals that were in place as Steering Committee Representatives, and we continue to serve without compensation to lead the PCI-SIG on its worldwide mission to help member companies develop high performance, interoperable PCI-compatible silicon, computers, device drivers, and adapter cards. Elected officers include President and Chairman of the Board Roger Tipley of Compaq, Vice President Larry Lamers of Adaptec, Secretary David Dorrough of ServerWorks, and Treasurer Damon Schaefer of Phoenix Technologies. Other Directors are Dan Neal of IBM, Ramin Neshati of Intel, Gerald Wineinger of Texas Instruments, Tom Theaker of Hewlett Packard, and David Smith of AMD. The Board has decided to upgrade several services that will raise the value of PCI-SIG membership. We will be enhancing our Compliance Workshop and plugfest program, by adding full testing of all of the newer PCI technologies and form factors, like PCI-X, Low Profile PCI, and Mini PCI. We plan to have day-long Technical Update tutorials that will be scheduled in many regions of the world. Finally, we will have several large-scale PCI Design Conferences to instruct design engineers on the design details of PCI, PCI-X and other recent PCI improvements. The Board of Directors also finalized plans to revise the PCI specification to version 3.0. PCI 3.0 will be available for member review in early 2001, and will merge PCI 2.2, PCI-X 1.0, and several recent ECNs to all bus specifications. PCI 3.0 ties together all of the improvements made to PCI over the last several years, and moves the industry another step towards fully embracing 3.3V PCI technologies. Compliance with PCI 3.0 will be required in the future for inclusion on the PCI integrators list, and may be required by quality assurance programs sponsored by major OS vendors. The PCI-SIG Web site, pcisig.com, will become a world-class destination for engineers, marketing, press, analysts, and customers to quickly find the information that they need to know about PCI specifications and the PCI-SIG. Pcisig.com is already heavily used by our membership, but we have identified several areas to improve to make it more user-friendly and accessible. About PCI-SIGPCI-SIG, formerly the PCI Special Interest Group, has over 940 member companies worldwide. The $3000 annual membership dues funds the PCI-SIG to service Member companies that develop PCI products. Tangible PCI-SIG Benefits include technical training, interoperability assurance testing services, online technical support, assignment of PCI Vendor IDs, a newsletter, and copies of specification updates (ECNs). Taking full advantage of these services enables members to design and build high-quality, interoperable PCI products that better serve customers. http://pcisig.com is the gateway to member services. |
