PCI bus I/O expansion cards and/or modems
Hi there. I'm hoping you can help me locate manufacturers of expansion
cards designed for PCI slots. I'm looking for an I/O expansion card as
well as an internal faxmodem.
Some background: I have a 2-month-old Gateway system with 1 available ISA
slot and 2 available PCI slots. I want to add a second internal faxmodem
(not ISDN) to the system as well as an internal Zip drive and also wish to
have at least one additional external parallel port available for
peripherals other than my printer. The Zip Zoom SCSI card that came with
my Zip drive is designed for the ISA bus, as is every internal modem I
have been able to locate. Same goes with I/O expansion cards; the only
choices seem to be ISA or VLB. So many cards, so few ISA slots...
I'm hoping that someone manufactures an I/O expansion card -- that plugs
into a PCI slot, mind you -- which will at bare minimum provide me with
one additional parallel port. It would be even better if I could find a
PCI SCSI adapter card which provided an internal SCSI connection, an
external SCSI connection and a parallel port; this would service the Zip
drive *and* provide the parallel port, leaving that lone ISA slot open for
the faxmodem. And I'd still have one PCI slot open for the future.
So, does anyone out there know of a manufacturer who makes this kind of
stuff for the PCI bus? I have already spoken to Adaptec and BusLogic but
no luck there. How about PCI bus faxmodems -- do any exist? That alone
would solve my problem. I've checked with U.S. Robotics and struck out.
Thanks in advance,
