PCI BIOS question

Hi,

When I use the PCI BIOS call 0x0C (write a configuration register WORD)
on a motherboard described below, I observe a DWORD config read followed
by a DWORD config write with the low or high 16 bits replaced by the
data I specify.
The problem is, that reading and writing back the "other half" of the
32 bit register might have an unexpected side effect. (E.g. writing to
the command register clears the status register!)

Any opinions on this?

Thanks,
Thomas
