How about using a 2 or 4-socket ISA-PCMCIA (R2) bridge in your ISA slot,
then you could plug in modem, parallel port and SCSI cards (if an R2 SCSI
card gives you adequate performance with the Zip drive). You'd then have
two
PCI slots open for things like high-speed networking and a fast frame
buffer/accellerator card.
