PLX'S SLAVE PCI INTERFACE CHIP PROVIDES LOW COST 
CONVERSION OF ISA ADAPTERS TO PCI

AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO DEFEAT ISA'S PLUG AND PLAY PROBLEMS

PLX now has our PCI 9050 chip in stock.  The PCI 9050 is a low cost PCI target
(slave) interface chip.  If you want details, check our website at

WHAT IS THE PCI 9050?  The PCI 9050 is a 160 pin PCI interface chip that
contains a target only (slave) interface (as opposed to our PCI 9060 which
has a target, direct master and DMA master interface).  The 9050's target
interface is very similar to the 9060 except it has several additional
features that make it very useful for slave applications including:

-Five local address spaces.  
-Four chip selects.  

WHAT APPLICATIONS BENEFIT FROM THE PCI 9050?  An ideal application is
converting an ISA card to PCI.  Examples included ISA slave adapters such as
modems, serial port cards, data acquisition cards, ISDN cards, etc.
Although the PCI 9050 can operate at the maximum data rate of PCI (132
megabytes per second), the typical application for the 9050 is a direct
conversion of a low performance ISA slave adapter (a few KBytes or Mbytes
per second) to PCI. 

We have found that manufacturers of these ISA adapters are being asked to
provide PCI versions of their ISA adapters by their customers; the system
integrators or the PC suppliers.  The primary reason they demand PCI is not
performance, but because PCI plug and play is superior to ISA plug and play.
In some applications ISA adapters are causing the PC suppliers, software
suppliers and end users compatibility and support problems.  What is needed
is a low cost way to convert these ISA adapters to PCI, and PLX has it! 

WHAT IS THE PRICE? The 20K per year price is $12.00 each.  Sample quantities
are $25.00 each.

WHAT IS THE AVAILABILITY?  We have parts in stock.

IS THERE A DEMO BOARD?  Yes, we have a demo board called PCI 9050EB. It
sells for $199.00 US.  You can get schematics, PAL equations and software
for this demo board free of charge by contacting PLX.

IS THE PCI 9050 PCI 2.1 COMPLIANT? Yes.

WHERE CAN I GET THE DATA SHEET?  You can download the Version 1.0 data sheet
from the web page FTP site (www.plxtech.com) or contact PLX by E-mail phone
(408-774-9080).  Version 1.0 includes the timing diagrams. 

WHAT DESIGN AIDS ARE AVAILABLE?  All the design aids contained in the PCI
9050EB evaluation board kit are available to customers free of charge including:
1.  PLXMon and Rover software.  These are two software utilities that allow
customers to edit PCI registers and memory in any DOS based PCI system.
They are excellent for hardware and software debugging and development.
Rover and PLXMon are available on our FTP site.
2.  PCI 9050EB evaluation board schematics and PAL equations.  These are
also available from the FTP site.
