Re: SVGA cards on PCI and store gathering

Hi,

I wonder if I could ask you a software driver question.

We currently have a PCI bridge design which does not have a
store-gathering feature on the one hand, but on the
other hand, it offers a very efficient DMA that move data from
the system bus to the PCI (in bursts).

This means low performance on consecutive single writes, and
high performance on DMA transfers.

The question is, hypotheticaly, if you were given such a system, would you be able
to design a graphics driver that can utilies the DMA instead of writing
each word directly to the PCI ? Would it make any sense ?

I appologize for this non strict question (I am not posting it)
, and hope it's not a bother. We don't have any application
engineers that are familiar with this area (we are in the embedded system field).

Thank you,
