Subject: Tickler on PCI PM spec
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The PCI Power Management Spec (.99a) is posted on the PCI SIG
Webpage and is available for download, review, and comment. This
will be the last revision before the official draft version is
approved by the Steering Committee for distribution to the
entire PCI SIG membership for their formal review. The PCI power
management spec. describes the changes required for the PCI bus
and its plug-in devices to comply with the more global ACPI
specification for desktop computer systems.
Besides the new stand alone PCI PM specification, the PCI 2.1
Local Bus Spec will have two changes to support power
management--use of a previously unassigned pin for wake-up PME#,
and expansion of the configuration registers for new capabilities
(i.e., power management).
I would like to thank the PCI SIG workgroup team members
Gary Solomom, Chairman (Intel)
Bruce Young (Gateway)
Ken Stufflebeam (Compaq)
Andy Rawson (IBM)
Brian Belmont (Texas Instruments)
Mike Kosco (Adeptec)
for their outstanding effort in developing the power management
specification. This engineering team of volunteers has made the
most significant change to the PCI specification since the PCI
local bus 2.0 revisions. Future capabilities, like Desk Top
Management (DTM) and Hot Plug will be "enabled" by the changes
made by the PM specification.
