32bit pci card in 64 bit slot
The intel Lanswood (l440GX) moederbord has 4 PCI 33 and 2 PCI-66 slots.
It is possible to put a 32 bit PCI-card in it, but the bus will work at
32bit, 33 MHz.
The specifications tell me :
PCI slots 5 and 5 interface to the 440GX AGP port via the intel 21150BC
PCI bridge chip.
Both slots are capable of supporting both standard 5-volt 33 MHz PCI
adapters and "Universal" 66 MHz PCI adapters. PCI 66MHz adapters that
require a 3.3 volt only PCI slot are NOT supported. PCI slot 5 and 6 are
optimized to deliver peek performance using 66 MHz adapters. It is
recommended that PCI slots 1-4 be used for standard PCI 33 MHz adapters
and only using PCI slots 5 and 6 for these cards when
necessary.Performance for 33MHz adapters in those PCI slots may not be
optimal...
What do I have to except ? I want to put a Matrox framegrabber OR a IDE
Raid in one of these PCI 66 MHz slots, to use the full bandwith of my
PCIbus. Both cards are PCI 33 adapters.
Is it possible to predict the preformance ?
