There are a number of systems out there that don't allow 64-bit PCI cards
to fit in their non-compliant 32-bit connectors.

We ended up removing a few pins on our Gigabit Ethernet PCI NIC (in
effect, widening the slot) so that our 64-bit PCI card would fit into these
non-compliant systems.

I suspect that there are other PCI adapter vendors that are doing the same.
