RE: PCI Multimedia Sound Device

Title: RE: PCI Multimedia Sound Device

Find out which chipset is in the system (look in Device Manager under System ???)  Some of the newer Via chipsets have the audio built in.

YOu can get updated drivers for almost any chipset (Intel, Via, etc)
from the respective website.  The newer Via chipsets require some type
of Registry patch before updating the drivers. YOu can find this information on the Via web page if you need it.

Subject: PCI Multimedia Sound Device

Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm sending this to the right list.  If I'm not,
please
let me know.

I am a computer consultant at the University of Pennsylvania's
Computer
Resource Center.  Myself and another consultant were working on
someone's
computer today.  We had problems and had to reinstall the OS, and
everything
worked afterwards except in the "Device Manager" the PCI Multimedia
Sound
Device was under unknown device.  It said we needed to update the
drivers for
it.  Windows did not find any, and there were none on the user's disks.

There is no manufacturer or model number on the sound device, so we
cannot
locate drivers that way.  The PC is running on a Win98 OS.  I'd
appreciate it
if anyone could give me information as to where I could download the
needed
drivers.  I've already e-mailed tech support from this site, and was
told
that they could not help me find the drivers, and that I should join
this
forum.

I'd appreciate if anyone knows any information on this at all, and if I
have
sent this to the wrong list, please let me know.

Thanks,
Kristen
