PCI block mode transfer

Dear all!

I'm writing a vxd for a PCI device. The device supports subj. It has a 
memory register and I read this register continuously to a buffer in the 
virtual address space, but although the counter on the device counts all my 
reads, the buffer contains 0xFF, 0xFF, ...
I suspect that reading the memory register is not the block mode transfer. 
So how to read this register to provide the subj?
