RE: Is is possible to receive a cheep SubVendorID?

Actually, I see four common situations, because some
chipsets allow you to modify the Vendor ID (VID) and
Device ID (DID) fields yourself at powerup. I'll copy
your two and add to them below:

1) The Vendor of the final product has a valid Vendor ID
The Vendor ID (VID), Device ID (DID) remain those from the company
selling the chip
The SubVID, SubDID are chosen by the oem

1a) The Vendor of the final product has a valid Vendor ID
The Vendor ID (VID), and Device ID (DID) are chosen by the oem
The SubVID, SubDID are unused

2) The vendor of the final product IS NOT registered to the pci sig
VID, DID are those from the chip vendor
SVID is from the chip vendor
SDID is allocated from the chip vendor to the customer

2a) The vendor of the final product IS NOT registered to the pci sig
VID is from the chip vendor
DID is allocated from the chip vendor to the customer
SVID and SDID are unused

The 1a) and 2a) version is the one supported by the AMCC5933 that I was
familiar with. You could change the VID or DID, or both,
depending on whether you had a valid Vendor ID and wished to
substitute yours for AMCC's. If you did not have a valid Vendor
ID, then 2a) applied, and AMCC would allocated a DID for your
to use with their VID. The AMCC5933 did not support the SVID
and SDID fields (they were not loadable from the serial eeprom).

HI everyone,

Just for me to recap (we'll have to answer our customers on this, too)

1) The Vendor of the final product has a valid Vendor ID
The Vendor ID (VID), Device ID (DID) remain those from the company
selling the chip
The SubVID, SubDID are chosen by the oem

2) The vendor of the final product IS NOT registered to the pci sig
VID, SID are those from the chip vendor
SVID is from the chip vendor
SDID is allocated from the chip vendor to the customer

Is this correct ?

Ciao, Marco.
