I don't understand this.

Picking some ID and using it is a blueprint for non-interoperability.

The only point of IDs is to be authoritative; you can't just "pick one".
And yes, SSVIDs come from the same namespace as VIDs, and they
have to come from the same pool as managed by the SIG, or life
for software is just plain hell.

Please think about this.  I agree the SIG should not extort so
much money for an ID, but anarchy is not the answer in this space.
