Soft reset question

Can anybody share the experience on this with me:

- I am using PCI Target 9030 chip and FPGA after that;  what would be
the sequence of steps if I want to soft reset FPGA;  what we know is we
have to set bit 30 of CNTRL; 50h register to 1 and then to return it
back to 0;  do we have to read contest of whole register, set bit 30 to
1, write back whole register with values read previously (including bit
30 to 0).
