RE: PCI 32/33 universal extender card for HP 16550A Logic Analyzer

Jeff,

I believe that the problem is the lack of a universal connector for the top
of the extender. The 3.3V connector and the 5V connector are the same
except that the ends are swapped. As a motherboard is either 3.3V or 5V
there is no demand for a universal connector other than for the small
universal extender card market.

Having said this, catalyst (www.catalyst-ent.com) makes a short extender
card (either PCI-532 and PCI-332) with a universal connector on the card
edge side. They then use small cheap extender boards (PCI-MINI-5 or
PCI-MINI-3) to shift the connector and raise the extender height. I have
often wondered if it would be possible to use a single PCI-532 with a
PCI-MINI-5 and a PCI-MINI-3 to make a universal solution. I have not tried
it, perhaps the folks from catalyst could comment.

The only S/W that I have run accross for the 16550 is from Future Plus.
