PCI Spec History
Alan pointed out that the early versions of PCI did not have a
connector defined. This is true. In fact I may have the
only complete set of PCI specs in existance. I have the following
versions:
PCI 0.0 4/27/91
Local Glueless Bus (LGB) 0.1 10/4/91
(the LGB name is an interesting story itself!)
PCI 0.2 1/17/92
PCI 0.3 2/28/92
PCI 0.4 5/28/92
PCI 1.0 6/22/92
PCI Add-In Board/Connector Addendum 11/10/92
(the Connector Definition does not show up until this spec)
Then of course there is 2.0, 2.1 & 2.2
If someone knows of a "proper repository" for such things,
I would be willing to donate them. Things changed quite a
bit through the development process for both technical and
political reasons. For example, version 0.0 has a paragraph talking
about the pros and cons of parity without defining what
mechanism would be implemented. 0.1 has a single PAR bit along with
PERR# and a PVAL# bit to signify that parity was being generated
which was eventually dropped when parity generation was made
a requirement in 0.4 (although there were still some references
to PVAL# in that rev that were not cleaned up until 1.0).
