Hi,
Well, it appears what you said is in fact correct! Thank you for bringing
it to my attention. And...in my opinion, it is simply EGREGIOUS of the PCI
SIG to try to completely eliminate the use of MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of PCI
cards that are PERFECTLY good. Simply unbelievable. They claim they want
to do this in ONE AND A HALF YEARS!
"Compliance to Revision 2.3 will be required no later than January 1st,
2004."
Obviously, I haven't perused the 2.3 spec, but I will surely send an email
to PCI SIG stating my opinion that this is absolutely unbelievable (not my
first choice of words, mind you...).
I am simply stunned that the latest PCI spec does not allow for backwards
compatibility of MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of PCI cards, and probably THOUSANDS
of designs that people have in current production.
Before I get too bent about this, does anyone have any more insight into the
reality of this? Are they really DECREEING the obsolescence of 5V PCI cards
within ONE AND A HALF YEARS???
Regards,
Austin
