PCI based Ethernet Card

Hi,
I want to write a device driver for PCI based Ethernet
card say D-link DFE-538TX. on VxWorks 5.3.1. But I
found in many mailing list that we can alter the
existing driver code for 3COM in VxWorks. I am
confused as not knowing where to start. Can any one
help me in this regards
