I know it for compact PCI.
2 PCI devices on the system board max
1 PCI device on the peripheral boards max
Maximum 8 slots on the same compact PCI bus
Total = 7 ( peripheral slots ) x 1 (PCI device/board) + 1 (system slot) x 2
(2 PCI devices) = 9

So, you can connect maximum 9 PCI devices to your compact PCI bus.
